Portfolio Example 6 — ‘Simple geometric ideas’

Evan Kettler joined the three-year Master of Architecture program at Carleton University in September 2021. Here are some images from the portfolio that won him acceptance to Carleton and the architecture schools at Harvard and Yale in the United States.

The portfolio work demonstrates “simple geometric ideas with some feverish execution,” he says. “My current goal is to maintain simplicity from beginning to end.”

Kettler, a Winnipeg native, holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba.  Following graduation in 2017, he spent several years working in a small atelier in Montreal, QC, making architectural models.

He chose the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism because of the school’s ability to support a wide breadth of design. “A variety of ideas and cross-pollination is very important to me.”

Kettler is the inaugural recipient of the Barbara A. Humphreys Memorial Scholarship. It goes to a graduate student entering the Master of Architecture program at Carleton University who shows promise for outstanding contributions to the profession.
